Description:             

Gain knowledge, experience and confidence in hands-on approaches to evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, which will make you a more effective practitioner. The program emphasizes correlation of anatomy, physical assessment, differential diagnosis, and management strategies including soft-tissue and joint mobilization, stretching and exercise techniques, and instrument assisted soft tissue manipulation. Participants include anyone engaged in physical medicine and manual therapy, including chiropractors, naturopaths, physical therapists and massage therapists.

 

Participants will receive the following texts when they arrive at class: 

  • Evidence Informed Spinal Manual (2019) by Nikita Vizniak. 
  • Evidence Informed Orthopedic Assessment (2019) by Nikita Vizniak. 

 

Participant in the course will learn to:

  • Effectively identify and palpate clinically relevant structures
  • Effectively apply clinical evaluation methods consistent with regional kinematics
  • Utilize effective, protocol-based assessment methods to differentiate common pathologies and tissue-specific injuries
  • Identify and apply effective treatment methods for a variety of musculoskeletal conditions
  • Choose and utilize appropriate outcome measures to evaluate baseline and progression

 

Dr. Vizniak is widely-known as a professional educator and author.  His work focuses on the application of clinical anatomy and biomechanics to patient assessment and management, and he has published several textbooks on related subjects. He loves to teach and empower practitioners with skills and confidence to provide more effective treatments.  

 

UWS will apply for CE/CC credit for the following professions and jurisdictions. Approval status will be updated when approval is granted.

  • Hands on anatomy & palpation review (bone, ligament, joint, muscle, nerve, vessel, fascia)
  • Evidence based clinical integration of assessment with pathology & evidence informed treatment options listed below:
  • Efficient biomechanics - work smarter instead of harder to prevent injury and get better results
  • Assessment Orthopedic & neurologic testing – have an accurate clinical understanding of the patients specific injury, compensation & dysfunction, differential diagnosis.
  • Basic & Advanced Stretching
    • Learn the critical thinking process, clinical integration and evidence based best practice methods and NOT memorization of protocols.
      • Learn how to use  Muscle energy technique (MET), Contract relax (CR), Post-isometric relaxation (PIR), Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), Agonist contract (AC) technique
      • Pin & stretch (PS) technique, Active Myofascial Release (AMR) or soft tissue release (STR), Acupressure & trigger point release techniques
    • Joint mobilization – learn the best practical application of joint mobilization safely and effectively.
    • IASTM use of instruments & critical thinking to improve results & decrease clinician fatigue
